I'm interested to see how Flash-on-mobile affects gaming portals like Kongregate.

Also, bring on Hulu mobile! :bignotawesome:

I noticed that dolphin web browser has pinch zoom now as well.

When I first got it, it had a different means to zoom.

I installed the maps update and my phone hasn't worked right since. I can't use the touchscreen. if I hold my finger still on the screen it freaks out and starts moving around like michael J fox in a paint shaker.

how do you reset the process that runs the touch screen?

nevermind.. I figured it out. If you have the phone plugged into the wall charger it freaks out for whatever reason. If you unplug it you can use the touchscreen again. No idea why this happens, but it does on my phone and others who have posted about it online.

still can't upgrade those on the moment.

Sprint did upgrade Android to another 1.5 build in the last couple weeks, which has to be done in-store, but still now word on the Android 2.1 release date although Sprint is still holding to sooner rather than later in the "first half" promise.

well this mini-upgrade from Sprint actually does improve the battery life like to 150-200% compared to the older version of 1.5.

still no pinch on Google Maps.

I tried gmote, but gave up trying to make my belkin router allow whatever it needed to allow. If I had my laptop somehow hooked to my stereo where I could pipe music around the house, it'd be really cool.

Just kidding. I went to the T-Mobile store to get a new SIM card and the girl mistakenly said I was eligible for a full upgrade. So I went with their new myTouch phone. At the register, she said oops but was still honoring the $150 price. Score!

Yep.

Also: I love that even though I got a new SIM card & phone, my contacts carried over since they are synced w/ Gmail.

Also2: the people in the store said Android 2.1 will be released OTA by the end of this month.

And...I have root, but it's pretty useless since the phone is only 8 days old and there are no hacked ROMs for it yet (I'm running the stock ROM w/ root). I tried Wifi Tether, but the stock kernel is not compiled with CONFIG_NETFILTER / CONFIG_IPTABLES. Terminal confirms I can 'su'.

I really like Swype.

open your droid. flip it over. On the back of the screen is a shipping film. Remove it. It slides so smooth now!

Moto droid? I don't think my wife's had that shipping film on it but I'll check when I see it next. I'm anal about little shipping films on electronics, I can't stand them.
Also, that's not my point, but I really don't care enough to argue about it anymore. Have fun seeing Transporter 4. -- Zapruder

Installed this app that lets me control my set top box using the phone as a remote.

Seems mostly pointless to me beyond the 'cool' factor, but it actually works pretty well. Can do the majority of what the regular remote can do.

My main complaint is that it's a 12 MB program so if I need extra room it's going to be one of the first to go.

I'd say it's a good phone and is great for navigation/internet stuff. Media capabilities are way lacking, and if I had the option, I'd probably jump to an iphone instead (even though it has its own set of annoyances).

I think the thing that bugs me the most is how software upgrades are handled. It looks like everything is going to be a second-class citizen in the android world to the nexus one. So, new features/OS upgrades will be rolled out to the other phones far behind the "official" google phone.

He walked closer to the tower ;)

I'm getting 3g speeds similar to the fast one here in Ames. Which is why I love Verizon. AT&T is pitiful here. PITIFUL.

I'd show you a screen shot but I just read how to do screen shots on the Droid and it's too involved to waste my time doing.

For the record, AmazonWireless was a bit misleading in their wording; the deal is not available for contract extensions so much as for people who are already out of contract who will sign another 2-year contract to get a phone deal.

So since I have a year left on my contract, I can either buy out for $100 + phone cost, buy a Droid directly from Verizon for $200, or a few other options that are even more prohibitively expensive.

Small, small chance I may buy out of my contract to get in on this deal, but most likely that I'll just wait and see what kind of deals there are when my "New Every 2" thing rolls around in October.

I had a year left on my Verizon contract but they had an offer where I could just sign a new 2 yr contract and get the Droid for the $199 price at the time (no MIR but that was due to my employee benefits/discounts). I'd look in to that if you can?

Don't do it. There's a shitload of great android phones coming out this year. Like dozens. Just wait it out if your phone's still operable.

Yeah yeah yeah, someone always says that in response to the counsel to wait. But right now waiting is your best option. The phones have been announced. We know for sure they're on their way. I'm not saying to wait for some nebulous future. I'm saying to wait for these specific devices that we know for sure are coming out soon.

Oh you misread me. I agree with you completely. Concrete features > hype/newness on its own (whether considering a Droid specifically or "the future" in general).

Buy one of those announced phones iff their enhancements tickle yer pickle like Jesus does.

This is true in all cases except for the 1963 Corvette, the Atari 2600, and the old formula of Coke.

Only one of those is even remotely considered a gadget and I'm highly dubious of its merit. :suspiciou

Yeah, I can get it for $200. That's more than I want to spend right now for a phone that's also going to jack up my monthly bills by $35+.

Yeah, my current phone is fine and does everything I need it to. I'm bummed I won't get all the neat apps and doodads, but I'm going to invest in a bluetooth headset instead right now (since Dubuque passed a law making it illegal to operate personal electronics while driving unless it's a handsfree operation) and see what deals I can find on Amazon come October.

on areas where you can't be on the phone without a headset - do they have to post it on interstates passing through those towns? how am I supposed to know if it's illegal if i'm not from the area?

My buddies almost convinced me to buy a Droid again last night. I think now I'm going to buy one with my first paycheck from this side job. So it'll probably be a good 2 months or so, but better than waiting till October or some shit.
