Try to avoid turning on your non-slim PS3 until Sony releases more info:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/03/ ... rk-status/

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

Where did you read this? Is it automatically on everyone's PS Store account? Or do you have to claim it some how? Does it expire? WHERE ARE BABIES MADE?

I just played Demons Souls on my friends ps3 and OH MY GOD!!

I haven't been so quickly addicted to a game since oh, Shadow of the Colossus. The concept is great and the multiplayer interface is seamless with the campaign. I'm always most interested in the flow of gameplay and while the death penalty can be frustratingly high, it's challenging enough to constantly engage the player and the variety of classes allow for good replay value and more interesting co-op play. My GF and I might get a ps3 just so I can play Demons Souls and she can play Fallout

After 4 days of it not working, called Netflix. Apparently the time and date needs to be accurate. Apparently an update (or something) occured that changed my date to 2020. Internet update... fixed.

Also picked up Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway limited edition for under $12. Even if the game is subpar I'll have a GI Joe doll to play with.

So, God of War III releases tomorrow. TRU has the best deal ($20 gift card), followed by Nebraska Furniture Mart ($15 gc).

Eh, that thread needs Black Friday removed from the title. I always hesitate to post there (despite having done so).

I'm a last minute shopper. With games, it's best to wait til the week of release to see what stores are doing what deals. NFM and TRU have done some pretty good deals on big name titles, and I'm not privy to advance notice. Best Buy and other dept. stores are pretty predictable with their $5 or $10 gift card's. (edit://Gift Card expires the 31st of March... retarded. Wonder if I can use it to purchase another gift card that doesn't expire...)

I'm surprised there hasn't been more gaming buzz with the recent GDC.

I've played the PC demo. Seemed like a less buggy Mercenaries 2. Vehicle controls were total dogshit with the KB+mouse, though. Probably need to try plugging in my 360 controller and see if that improves things at all.

Since my parents' wireless is considerably faster than it used to be (don't know why, not gonna question it), the PS3 is sitting over there downloading my PS1 stuff, finally. Also updating games that were sorely in need (Burnout Paradise, Rock Band 2, PAIN, now with more free content!). I'll skip the LBP updates for now... I don't have the patience to wait THAT long to update a game I never play.

I'm down with the most recent firmware update. Playing minis on the PS3 since my PSP is out of commission is good. Now if only I could play the rest of my PSP stuff from the PS3 since I totally have the appropriate TV and cables...

Gretyl, noticed the Just Cause 2 trophies... did you rent or buy? And how is the full version? If i had any money right now and didnt still have like 25% of FFXIII, I think Id buy it. Is it a must buy or just rent iyo?

I don't buy open-world games as a rule. JC2 was at the top of my to-rent list when Family Video sent me another free rental coupon. It's a pretty good time, and even better if you skip all the story parts & just grind away on the missions while fucking about.

My own personal taste. I feel like I'm wasting my money if I just buy a bunch of missions.

I just never feel "gamed" enough, like I've got my money's worth. Not the guy to ask about must-buy sandbox games.

Well the reason I ask is that it seems like you're saying if they pulled those same missions together into a more coherent story, you'd be ok with it.

Like if you took a sandbox game where you didn't feel "gamed" enough and then multiplied the number of missions by 100, would you still feel the same way?

Naw, I'm going with some calculation like:

game = fun * intensity * intellect * duration

I enjoy Oblivion & Fallout 3 (and paid for both), but don't enjoy any of {GTA, Saint's Row, Infamous, Prototype, Just Cause 2, Mercenaries, Red Faction: Guerrilla} enough to buy a copy. It's a rule, but it does have exceptions.

Anyone pick up MLB10 The Show? I enjoyed the demo well enough, might get it off craigslist. Would like to hear some full game impressions from normal people, and this is the best I can do for now.

I picked it up a few weeks ago. I've started to get used to the pitching but I still suck at hitting (this is the first baseball game I've owned in years). As for the controls and presentation it's all done really well. I think I just need to get a better eye at the plate. To start I was losing games 9-3 or so. The last game I lost 1-0.

i've got it. it seems a lot harder than the last couple versions. hitting especially. the timing window for when you can press the swing button and still make good contact has been reduced considerably. its still a great game, but now more realistically challenging i think

I played an exhibition game against #5 pitcher and was able to win one. Also I started a road to the show player so hopefully that helps me practice hitting.

After getting farther into the Road to the Show I'm really enjoying this game. I've started reading the pitches better and I've been able to hit a lot more of my goals recently. It's a hard game to get used to but very fun once you start getting the hang of it.

RttS is by far the best career mode in any sports game. i'm into my second season with my SS, started with the Reds (because they stink & i thought i had a decent shot at making the show early) but got traded to the Red Sox during my first season. got called up to the bigs about 1/2 way into the season and actually did really well. hit .299 with 14 HRs in a little fewer than half of a season. we won the World Series, but the dumbass CPU has traded away all of our good starting pitchers for dogshit minor leaguers...so year 2 hasn't been as smooth. at least i'm doing well, hitting .350 but the HRs have slowed considerably. will probably reach 30ish HRs but not much more. currently leading the AL in RBIs n i'm having a blast with it

Re: Playstation Home

Subject: Fuck you.

Dear Sony,

Don't charge people for personal spaces many times the size of the freebie Harbor Studio apartment if they all hold the same limit of furniture and other decorations. Also, only allowing two active items (like pool, poker, or darts) at a time in said spaces is bogus. Let users use the items they pay for.

Disclaimers stating these limits would also be great. This is the kind of thing that would make some people would consider legal action.

Sincerely,
Go fuck yourselves.

How's that? I'm thinking of sending it in a pink scented envelope with hearts on it. But inside will be the letter, and a cat turd.
