Ha! Metroid uses The WiiConnect24 list. Not only that, but it automatically checks for a saved Metroid game on people's machines so you know if they're playing it or not. Of course, the only thing you can do is send vouchers or some crap. Still...it shows that games can use the list if the devs make it that way. There's still the potential to not fuck this system up.

Oh, and because I just checked today, my Mii Parade is at 307.

Yeah, as of right now they're pretty worthless. I keep hanging on to the idea that someday they'll really matter for something. Metroid uses the WiiConnect list, but just barely.

Yeah, typing in everyone's pain in the ass 16-digit number isn't worth the effort until we get some games that use the wii friend codes (as opposed to their own codes, which will need to be typed in, dammit)

I figure it's easier to type them in slowly as people get Wiis than it would be to put everyone's name in once a game comes out that does take advantage of the technology.

I hate to go back to Metroid as an example because it's not exactly what we want to see in terms on online capabilities, but it was nice to see two people on my list who already had Metroid saves listed and could receive vouchers from me.

What happens to all the names I entered in that aren't black? Pretty shitty that only 6/31 people are all that have made the connection to my wii. Question becomes, will I have to re-enter these numbers to connect, or will they eventually do so?

yeah with the Wii you have to TELL the other person that you added them since they have to have added you as well. Not as easy as the xbox360 where you just need a one way connection.

Umm, so only 16% of the people on strangetalk have added everyone as of last March '07?

I added the late comers who said they have everyone and they aren't showing up in black...

Maybe the very first post should update the list... it's pretty far behind.

I don't see what the problem is. Why should I have a zillion people in my list that I don't really know? Why not let people pick and choose who they want to have on there?

I know typing in 30 or 40 16 digit numbers at roughly ~5 minutes each is a great way to spend a friday night indoors, but c'mon, some people have other shit to do.

Frankly, I haven't played anything on my wii in a couple months. I feel absolutely 0 pressure to power the thing on and spend an evening tapping numbers in so some complete strangers can see some black text instead of gray.

Sorry to be a dick about it, but i'm pretty sure this is what at least 25% of the people you see in gray are thinking. The other 75% of them probably haven't even looked at this thread in the past 9 months.

Sure you sound like a dick, but in that regard you are right. The last thing anyone should be doing is taking it personally when someone's name isn't in black.

Way to goat me into a mini tirade. First off, if no one gives a shit about this thread, and no one checks it anymore, why the fuck is it still stickied? Let it thrive on its own or die.

I'm not taking it personally that 80%+ of the people I've added haven't connected to my system. What I am concerned about is that if someone has added me, why haven't I seen their name show up yet? I've been up to date with everyone, yet only 4-5 people on here are blacked out. I wanted to know if they have added me or not simply because I want to know if I have a problem with my system or set-up.

Why am I going to all this trouble now??? Because it has been speculated that smash bros will be online, and the release is this Dec. I would like to iron out all of the bugs before this happens so I can play some shit in the fall/winter online as soon as I pick it up. If the problem is with my system, then I'd like to get it replaced under warranty (which ends in a few months). When I tried playing Strikers online I found no one to play with during the rental period (and Nintendo is stupid for not including random matches, which I guess I should have looked into first).

I realize it's your "thing" to be a dick dao, but for shits sake, just answer the question with a simple yes/no.

That's all we're saying is, if a name is gray, ask them if they will add you, don't just assume they enter every friend code they find into their system.

You're talking like it's 1 or 2 people. There are people that have said their list is up to date (i.e. assuming they've added everyone... bad assumption?), yet they are still grey (like 25 others).

FYI after this last update you can plug a USB keyboard into the thing, tho I have not tested this to confirm Nintendo's claim.

So I am picking up our Wii in a few more weeks and it evidently seems like it will take a long time to enter the numbers from other people. Is there a faster way to do this?

This is what I found after googling for it.
Theinterweb wrote:The support is far from universal -- while you can use the keyboard to type out message board messages, you can't use it to enter a name for you Mii, suggest a poll question on the Everybody Votes Channel or, most importantly, fill in web addresses and forms on the Internet Channel. The Wii Shop Channel, oddly enough, does support the keyboard for typing in search terms, and it was the only channel to receive a significant overhaul in the latest system update.

I don't have a wii and have little experience with things that don't involve playing games on it. Does this mean that plugging in a keyboard WILL allow me to enter people's numbers on it or no?

I really need to finish Metroid. I kind of stopped playing a bit back. I'll jump in to my game tomorrow and see what vouchers I have in my save. I can send some your way if I have a few. Of course, I'd certainly accept some too.

Re: What is your Wii Number?

I just added your number to my address book. Mine again is 0281 2547 7256 3771.

Go ahead and keep yours. Apparently I have something like 21 of those things right now. I'll just make sure I send some your way when I pick up a few.
