I'm so excited about this. I thought we'd see this on XBLA in 2007, but better late than never. Now that we have TMNT and X-Men, we just need The Simpsons Arcade to complete my childhood arcade beat 'em up trifecta.

After watching some videos, the physics is the most infuriating of the three. Looks way too easy to get stuck on inclines.

I hope this is true. If so, it'll be a cool way for the used gamers to get their fill of "trade-ins" while keeping the used market from becoming the leech upon the industry that it generally ends up as.

I'm in the same boat as you. Multiple PCs and some older consoles but none of the latest gen consoles. Seen too many people get bored with wiis to blow money on one. X360 seems lik a poor value 4 years after release.

So, I played the demo tonight, and they are really close to making an above-average platformer, if only the running acceleration was faster and the jumping didn't feel so floaty. It's really close to being fun, but far enough away to be frustrating.

For contrast, I played the new Kirby game, which is done competently and decided Sega should just finish fucking with our childhoods and let Nintendo take a shot at a real Sonic game.

hey, there's a topic i don't think has been discussed here. why no digital rentals? steam should let me rent new vegas for say, $5/week. although i guess practically no one would buy full copies of big budget games then.

with practically no one releasing demos of big games like they did in the olden days, this would be pretty nice.

It's possible, but they're going to charge you more than $5. I think most of the B&M rental companies were charging ~$8/week for game rentals.

well, there's no reason they can't charge less than b&m, but i'd still happily pay $8 for a "full demo" in the many many cases where i'm uncertain whether i want to risk $50 on a buy.

seems like it'd be technically trivial to implement in steam, since they already have the occasional "free weekend" for games.

Artemis is a multiplayer, multi-computer networked game for Windows computers.

Artemis simulates a spaceship bridge by networking several computers together. One computer runs the simulation and the "main screen", while the others serve as workstations for the normal jobs a bridge officer might do, like Helm, Communication, Engineering, and Weapon Control.

Artemis is a social game where several players are together in one room ("bridge") , and while they all work together, one player plays the Captain, a person who sits in the middle, doesn't have a workstation, and tells everyone what to do.

Want to get the whole game free? It's simple!

1. Get the demo
2. Get together with your buddies and play
3. Get video of you playing the game, use your cheap flipcam or something. Make it 1 minute or longer
4. Post the video on YouTube for the whole world to see
5. Email me about it and attach a still pic of your crew, so I can see it's really you
6. I'll give you a download link, so you and your crew can have the full version!

It's just that simple. Make a YouTube video of you enjoying Artemis, and I'll give you the full version.

Well, Kmart has me stuck in their $20 gaming coupon cycle. Bought Vanquish for 360 and got 30 bucks off of Reach and a $20 Coupon, used that to buy Fallout:NV, which also came with 20 off next game, today used that and got Fable III, and yet another 20 off coupon, probably will use that to buy Goldeneye when it comes out, and not sure if that will break the cycle or not...

So that got me wondering, on average, how many games do you all play at once? Is it a strictly one game start to finish? Do you usually have two games or so that you play simultaneously so as not to get bored?

Right now I am getting close to the end of Mass Effect, but also started playing Fable II, also been playing through DJ Hero and have been playing (multiplayer) Halo. I'm thinking about ditching FII to start FIII, and i still have a PS3 game or two that Im not quite finished with (though I would consider those less of a currently playing, and more of a stopped playing due to lack of interest or due to new, better game.)

This time? Tom Chick's gaming blog, Fidgit.

I disagree with him plenty on general taste & preferences (for example, he gave Fallout: NV an F for its bugginess, whereas I find that game playable if sometimes upsetting), but I keep reading him for nuggets like this.

Black Ops Breaks Opening Day Records
Koticku wrote:About 5.6 million people bought copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops in North America and the United Kingdom on Tuesday, when the game went on sale.

That makes it the largest entertainment launch in history. And Black Ops is not just a popular game. It's a very popular game. More popular than Modern Warfare 2 was one year ago, its creators said today.

Activision executive Thomas Tippl told an audience of investors in New York that Black Ops has sold $360 million worth of copies in its first 24 hours of release in North America and the U.K. this week, compared to $310 million in the first day of release for Modern Warfare 2 a year ago. Modern Warfare 2 sold a mere 4.7 million copies.

I'll admit that I went from being completely disinterested in the game (annoyed with CoD after MW2's rampant multiplayer bugs) to being interested in just the last week or two (though I still didn't buy). They had a pretty solid ad campaign.

I didn't play MW2, but I did get to experience friends of mine being angry at a screen for several hours a time so that basically ensured that I would never consider it.

Have you never played any of the earlier Call of Duty games?
You are who you are. Nothing I say has never made any difference. No punishment I can dream of will ever change you.

Because things that sell well tend to perpetuate and amplify?

I mean, I would think that someone who rents/buys used would be especially concerned with which games sell the most. Whether you like the game or not, it's worth knowing whether a game is successful or not, and especially worth knowing if a game you love is bombing or a game you hate is selling like gangbusters.

Rent or buy a cheap copy of MW or MW2 and try it out. If you think you like the general architecture, you'll probably like Black Ops.

nope. I bought Rainbow 6: Vegas but I only played it for about an hour, I didn't like the controls. Maybe I should give that one another go?

Serious? How about I gift you something on Steam. See anything of interest?

You'd have to cover shipping, but yeah, I'm serious like blood in your stool. I'm sure we could work out a steam thing if that's how you wanna roll, dawg.

I don't care how big the other stuff gets as long as some of the stuff I like continues to be made & distributed. Hate makes life shorter.

If a game you hate does well, studios are likely to make more of it and less of games you do like.

I fail to see the imminent threat posed by Black Ops. I hope you'll forgive me in the coming game apocalypse.

Wii shovelware poses zero threat to HD gaming. Blockbuster FPS's likewise have no bearing on the games I'm interested in buying. Do we have to go over market segmentation again, dao?
