Does that timing sound right to you though compared to what you're seeing? They're pretty much showing up every 2nd or 3rd time I wander into the wasteland. Once every few hours real time would be fine, but this feels like a horrible joke is being played on me and the game is trying to convince me to stop playing it.

Yeah, that sounds about right. When my character was still at a low level I destroyed that legion camp in the SE corner of the map, and killed all of the legion in that town they destroyed (Nipton? I think?). After that it seemed they started hunting me relentlessly. I kept getting my ass kicked because I was running out of ammo and stimpacks.

I did notice that if you stay away from the main roads you will have less frequent encounters with them, but that also means venturing into territory filled with Cazadores and other fun creatures.

Sweet, problem permenantly averted. The guy at Camp McCarran has 780 .308AP rounds for sale (basically unlimited for my needs). So I'll always have that place to restock when needed. And I have the sniper perk now, so I should always be able to pop a couple of the assassins in VATS right away after they approach me to tell me I've been marked for death. And each time I see them I get a super sledge I can sell for 2500 caps or something hugely high, so the cost of the AP rounds isn't a concern either.

They finally announced Ultimate edition to be released in February. Though I just bought NV last month, I'm planning on picking that up instead of buying all the DLC.

Question: Fallout 3 GOTY came with two discs - one game disc and one collected DLC disc. I want the physical copy but my vanilla copy was through steam - will I be able to apply DLC to the already installed copy and continue my game, or will I need a new install? I guess I'm asking because I don't really know how Steam installs work.

About the Legion attacks -

I've been shooting the leader of each squad - the guy with the big hat - in his stupid fucking face until he dies. Then the other Legion assholes lose interest in attacking me and just stand there.

I would imagine you will just be able to enter whatever key(s) they give you into Steam. Keys from the PC retail copies could be activated on Steam. I can't see how it would prevent you from continuing your game.

With that being said, it might do something annoying like redownload the whole fucking game just to apply the DLC. That's what happened to me when I purchased the DLC for the PC edition on a Steam sale.

Fallout 3 GOTY disc 2 didn't come with any extra key - just the second disc. :/

I just beat this game, no DLC involved.

Oh my god what a good fucking game.

I'll pick up a physical copy of the ultimate edition or whatever the GOTY is called this time in Feb. I'll play it again via a different path - but I'm really glad I followed through with the path I did this time - killing Mr House, shooing the NCR and Legion from the Dam and instilling Colorado as a new state. Sigh. I'm going to miss this world for a couple months.
