You should try Dark Souls. I'd be interested in a direct comparison.

first few hours of witcher 2 were pretty great, like it was a pretty sweet action game with quite complex combat, and then it turned into some gay RPG where i have 500 random stupid quests i don't care about. gah.

Uncharted 3: Who Farted? lands this Tuesday. I'm in media blackout on this, but Chloe got a boob job or something? Should be good cinematic, ledge-jumping times.

There's also www.cheapassgamer.com And they list all the daily/weekly deals, both online and in store. They also do a great job of staying on top of Black Friday/Cyber Monday ads and deals.

Opposing the ESA's support of SOPA or opposing SOPA? Which 'this' are you interested in?

The former could easily be just those five guys, but the latter has more organic, widespread support.

I guess I was asking about opposing the ESA's support. Amazing that there's a defacto representative of a big industry that doesn't represent the interests of a big chunk of that industry (like music ten years ago).

In a broader sense, the web is still in its wild west days.

They also run the Video Game Voter's network which is supposed to stop unjust legislation against video games. Even though that would mean SOPA for many.

I've been playing the original Mario Bros lately. I still have never beaten this game. 6 lives entering world 8-1, and still can't get all the way through the level.

Please forgive my musings. I'm guessing nobody cares, but...

Mass Effect 1 plays like it was supposed to be KOTOR 3. Both KOTOR and KOTOR 2 have deep flaws in pacing and gameplay. The thing that makes them great, though, is amazing characters that pull you in and make you care. Maybe I just played ME "wrong," but I never felt pulled in by the characters. I mean this in a fundamental way rooted in gameplay itself. I never felt like having NPC's tagging along added much to the game aside from the occasional snide comment they'd throw in. Their stories barely intertwine with the missions, so there's hardly any reason to talk to them. Add to that the fact that between missions they're scattered around this big ship - some even separated by an elevator (ugh) - so not only is there no incentive to chatting them up between missions, but the game pushes you away from it. Honestly, I spent way more time "surveying" planets (in a game mechanic that really just boiled down to a menu system broken up by needless loading screens) than I did learning about the characters in the game. If I hadn't read reviews and stuff, I wouldn't know about the sex scene. I certainly didn't get it. And at pivotal points in the game where I was supposed to make difficult decisions about which characters live and die, I didn't care. At what should have been a powerful moment where I'd pause and think about the ramifications of my actions, instead I was annoyed that game was trying to tug at my heartstrings in such a cheesy way.

Surely my experience isn't the norm. Reviews suggest that the other characters in ME2 really make the game, so I'm making it a point to spend more time chatting with them.

Just something that really stood out to me as a missed opportunity in ME. Thanks for listening.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but it seems they might have looked at diminishing WoW playtime and handed them out to people they thought might be playing Swtor.

Or they just opened the beta-invite valve blindly. I don't think they'd have to analyze at the individual level to know the kind of people with the beta toggle on.

That's not as good of a way to keep players away from your competitor's games. I'd be looking at all WoW cancellations/reduced playtime since SWTOR launched and giving those people the D3 beta keys.

Maybe not for all games, but AAA releases should want to design themselves to be played as soon as possible after purchase, nah'mean?

Our points are not incompatible. Play-before-fully-downloaded requires foresight and planning in game development, but if the distribution channel doesn't support it, you can't do it at all.

steam does support downloading games before release date, and then unlocking them then. i don't know what (if many) difficulties you'd encounter actually doing a play-while-downloading thing, but certainly the a priori download would be easier.

download-before-streetdate is completely different from play-while-downloading if you buy a game long after release

Saved Deckard Cain and called it a night last night. Didn't see any of the weirdness Gertyl experienced. Looked solid. Had some performance issues where the system would hang for a while, but it always recovered. I turned all the settings up to high, so hopefully lowering my graphics expectations will remedy that.
